He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
