The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
