He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
