He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
