He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
