The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
