He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
