He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
