He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
