He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
