[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
