He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
