He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
