He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
