He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
