He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
