He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
