He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
