The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 And when the stars darken, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas shall become as blazing Fire or shall overflow; 6 And when the souls he paired, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 that hide, 16 by the night swarming, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
