The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies; 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 And it (the Quran) is not the word of the outcast Shaitan (Satan). 25 Where then are you going? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
