The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 for a great Day, 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
