The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 on a great day 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 it is a written record. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A book inscribed, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
