The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 on a fateful Day. 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 But they had not been sent as guardians over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
