The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ruin is for the defrauders. (Those who measure less.) 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 those who deny the Day of Judgement. 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, 15 Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch. 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 a written record, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 upon couches gazing; 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
