The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in Sijjin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him he says: "Tales of the ancients!" 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 and when they saw them said: 'These are they who are astray' 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
