The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 will be easy, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
