The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
