The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
