The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
