The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the heaven and the Morning Star 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 There is not a soul that does not have a guardian over it. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He was created of spurting water 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the day when all secrets will be made public, 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 it is not a jest. 14 They are devising guile, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
