Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
