Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
