Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
