Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
