Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
