Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
