Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
