Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
