Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
We sent Noah to his people (and directed him): “Warn your people before a grievous chastisement comes upon them.” 1 He said: O my people! verily I am unto you a warner manifest. 2 that you serve Allah and fear Him, and follow me; 3 He will forgive you your sins and respite you till an appointed term. When the term of Allah arrives it cannot be deferred; if you but knew' 4 He said: my Lord! Verily I have called my people night and day. 5 But my invitation increased them not except in flight. 6 "And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride. 7 Then I called them openly, 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 Then I said, "Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Surely He is the most forgiving. 10 He will shower upon you torrents from heaven, 11 and will aid you with worldly goods and children, and will bestow upon you gardens, and bestow upon you running waters. 12 What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur 13 when He has created you in stages? 14 Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers 15 ‘And in them, has illuminated the moon, and made the sun a lamp?’ 16 God made you grow from the earth. 17 Afterwards He will return you into it (the earth), and bring you forth (again on the Day of Resurrection)? 18 God has made the earth for you a spreading, 19 that thereof you may thread ways, ravines." 20
