Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
