Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
