Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
