Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
