And indeed We sent Moosa along with Our signs towards Firaun and his chieftains – he therefore said, “Indeed I am a Noble Messenger of the Lord of the Creation.” 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, behold, they broke their troth. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible man who can hardly make his meaning clear? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah). 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples. 56
