Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
