Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
