Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
