Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
