Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
