Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
